Hearing Aid Daily Cleaning

Make sure you wipe the earbuds on your hearing aids off every night (or in the morning) every day!! Cleaning them can be as simple as wiping down the hearing aid itself with a dry microfiber cloth or paper towel. The receivers will collect wax, oil, and other debris which creates clogs. The result will be reduced clarity of sound, excessive battery drain, and you'll start saying, "Huh?" again.

We recommend using an alcohol wipe, a damp wet wipe, or a damp washcloth to clean them. Don't use anything that is sopping wet, it just needs to be damp. We like using an alcohol wipe because it will keep the earbuds clean and fresh. Additionally, we recommend coming in at least every four to six months to check the integrity of the earbuds as other components. This way, if the earbud begins to deteriorate, we'll immediately replace it with a new one.

Here is a real example of a pair of receivers that have not been cleaned nightly. The patient complained that one hearing aid was not working and the other sounded muffled. A good clean and they were as good as new. Trust us, cleaning your hearing aids daily will greatly reduce any problems you may experience.

If you need further assistance or find yourself falling in that four to six month window for a check-in please give us a call at (757) 431-1999 to make an appointment.
